Google the definition of the word “cope,” and this is what
you get:
It means to just deal. To just get up every day and go
through the motions until you are no longer aware that you have to consciously
make yourself do these things.
I really like that word, and I think it’s a perfect word to
express how so many people live their day-to-day lives. We’re all asked, “How
are you today?” And we almost always say “I’m alright,” or “I’m doing well.”
Few of us are fully honest. I have one friend who usually answers, “Well I’m
alive. And that is good.”
Yes it is good.
I think in a way, her answer is probably one of the most
honest. Because sometimes, we are just alive. We are just coping. And that’s
perfectly alright.
